On selecting the by contact link, the statistics that are displayed relate to contacts that opened documents rather than documents that were opened by contacts.
The definitions of the headings are listed below

This is the number of unique contacts that have opened a document |

This is the total number of contacts sent documents as part of the campaign |

This is the total number of contacts that opened a link |
Links Unique |
This is the number of unique contacts that have opened a document |
Contacts Sent |
This is the total number of contacts sent links as part of the campaign |
PFC Ratio |
The ratio of total contacts that read documents and links to the total number of contacts sent to |
